The people who brought you the Go Oahu Card are now offering something new called the Custom Oahu Explorer Pass. Let’s talk about it and see which is best for you on your vacation to Oahu.

Ok, I like the Go Oahu Card. I bought one, I used it, and I did the math to see how much money it can save. I talk about all of that in my Go Oahu Card Review.

So Do I Recommend the Custom Oahu Explorer Pass?

YES! I think it fills a very specific need and I think it is a very valid way to save money on Oahu activities.

How it Works

There are (for now) 15 very popular attractions to choose from. They are:

• Battleship Missouri Memorial (The Might Mo – a FAVORITE of my family’s)
• Germaine’s Luau (one of the best luaus on the island)
• Grand Circle Island Tour (by bus)
• Hanauma Bay Snorkeling Adventure (the only beach in Hawaii you have to pay to get into, but well worth it)
• Hawaiian Style Moped Rental
• Half Day Snorkel rental
• Kailua Bike Rental
• Kailua Kayak Rental (a must-do)
• Makani Catamaran Sail (really cool)
• Pacific Aviation Museum
• Pearl Harbor and Honolulu City tour
• Sea Life Park Admission (awesome place)
• USS Bowfin Submarine and Museum Admission (another of our favorite attractions)
• Waikiki Hop On Off Trolley Pass (waikiki fun)
• Wet N Wild Waterpark admission (only waterpark in hawaii)

You’ll need to check the website and see if these are still the attractions available. this is what was available when I wrote this review.

So, the idea is that you pick which activities that you want to do and the more you pick, the more money you save. For example, let’s examine the pre-built travel package where they have picked

• Germaines Luau
• Grand Circle Island Tour
• Half Day Snorkel
• Bike Rental
• Sea Life Park

So, if you were to show up in Hawaii and pay the non-discount gate admission prices for all of these attractions, you would pay $166.17.

If you had the Custom Oahu Explorer Pass, you would pay only $119.42.

That’s a savings of $46.75 overall. That’s an overall savings of 28%! Wow. Sometimes you can find coupons for $5 off admission or 10% off admission once you get to Oahu, but almost 30% is pretty darn good.

So Which is Better, The Go Oahu Card or the Custom Oahu Explorer Pass?

I’ve been recommending the Go Oahu Card for years now, but with the caveat that you must be a very active vacationer to fully get your money’s worth out of it.

In my review I’ve shown that in order to save the most money, doing between 2 to 4 activities every day that you purchased the card for is necessary to really make it a card that will save you money.

Now, this Custom Explorer Pass solves that dilemna. If you don’t want to rush around and make sure you get in as many activities as possible each day you can just pre-pick your activities and know you are getting a great, pre-paid deal!

So, I say it depends on you, the vacationer. If you like to be spontaneous and do tons of stuff each day, pick the go oahu card. If you want to pre-pick your activities and take your time, pick the custom explorer pass.

Are There any other Discount Cards on Oahu that are Better?

In my opinion, the go oahu card and the custom oahu explorer pass are hands-down the best of their kind on Oahu.

When you get to the airport there will be tons of tourist magazines to pickup and some will have coupons, but most will be for 10% off or so. There are also some other cards but I don’t think they can rival these.

The Hawaii Entertainment Book has some buy one get one free admission passes for some activities and for restaurants, but it mostly does not compete with this card.
